about the new state sales tax on self
storage re: NJ State sales tax on self storage rentals LEGISLATIVE ALERTS AND THE LATEST LEGAL ISSUES The following is an excerpt from the proposed Sales
Tax on Consumer Services: The
economy has grown and modernized since the Sales and Use Tax was first
introduced in 1967. Consumer spending has shifted from primarily goods to a
wide mix of consumer services and electronically accessed goods which are not
included in the sales tax base. The Fiscal 2007 Budget would expand the Sales
and Use Tax to include a broad array of consumer services, effective October
1, 2006. Affected items could include membership fees in golf and health clubs,
landscaping services, shipping and handling services, self-storage services, private investigator services, electronic
data access, and downloaded music and videos.
